This contemporary home is located on a 7-acre site over-looking a rugged canyon in Yakima, Washington. Harsh cold winters, hot summers, arid rolling hills, and lush green orchards gave inspiration to the design which responded to the environmental elements and also provided a fun place for frequent entertaining. The home is anchored to the site with large sandstone walls arranged in a cross-axial pattern punctuated by a tall entry tower at the axis. The tower creates the focal point for the home, while the individual spaces radiate in all four directions in a series of volumes that cling to the stone walls and weave the structure into the landscape. The asymmetrical roof shapes create a rolling, undulating composition of forms which blend with the surrounding hills.
